The CATS Cam is one of the most advanced wildlife recording devices worldwide. The video module is fully controlled by a CATS Diary and is available as a 2k or 4k version.
The device is fully wireless, whether its for recharging, programming or downloading files. Various duty cycling options are available for video recording, including delay times, fixed recording duration at start-up, time of day duty cycling and loop recording. In addition, video recording can be triggered by any of the sensors recording the animal’s movement or environmental parameters (e.g. accelerometer, pressure transducer, light sensor etc.). These advanced trigger options make the CATS Cam a powerful tool for researchers, enabling them to acquire video recordings of specific events and at times of interest.
As with all CATS devices, the CATS Cam can be integrated into any float/housing and the recording capabilities (battery and memory capacity) can be customized to the specific needs of the species and the project.
As animals and their environments differ, CATS customizes each CATS Cam to the specific requirements, whether for terrestrial use, above or below the surface of the oceans.
The CATS Cam is a high-resolution, multi-sensor recorder capable of resolving fine-scale movement with the valuable addition of video recordings. In the past, IMU and TDR analysis often failed to accurately identify the exact behaviour recorded, leaving many results open to the researcher’s interpretation. With the CATS Cam, scientists are now able to verify these recordings via the video images and the soundscape.
The CATS Cam user interface is windows-based.
